"Falls are common among older adults. In the United States, about one in four people age 65 or over report falling each year. ... according to CDC."
There are many articles on how to prevent falls. I'm sure they are all good advises. However, a fall usually happens quickly. One might only have fraction of a second to react to it. Can one do something to reduce the injury?
Please come join our class to find out! I have been practicing Aikido for over 15 years and I hold a 2nd degree black belt in Kokikai Aikido International. I got thrown down to the mat literally 100 of times every week in our practice so I can say I know how to do some falling down.
Our Winter Session is indoor and the facility has mat. So, our focus for the class is to do more floor exercises that improve flexibility and mobility. We will practice rolling and falling down techniques in a progressive and safe manner.

Facility
The room has puzzle (foam) mats so we'll have to take our street shoes off. Please wear socks (no bare foot). A pair of indoor (exercise) shoes is also OK. When we arrive in the morning, the room will be a little cold. We will turn up the heat and warm up the room to around 65-70F.
Clothing suggestion
Comfortable long sleeve top and pant – such as sweat shirt/pant or exercise top/pant. You’ll be doing stretching, lying down and some rolling on the mats. You can bring a big bath towel for additional cushioning when doing floor exercises.
Class cancellation
Although the class is indoor, we'll have to cancel class if it is not safe (e.g. snow storms) to travel there. In general, we will likely cancel class if Lexington and/or Burlington school systems cancel/delay school that morning. I'll try to send out a message in the morning before the class if I think we should cancel class.
Cost
We are renting from and supporting the Pence Self-Dense Academy. Shared cost for the entire winter session is announced to our regular members and collected at the start of December. If you have not signed up for the entire winter session, you are still more than welcome to drop-in to any class (suggested drop-in contribution is $15/class). If you are new, we welcome you to come and try out a free class and then decide whether this class fits you.
Liability Waiver
To use the facility, the insurance company requires everyone to sign a membership liability waiver form. A sample is attached at the link below. For our class, you just have to fill out your contact information (name, phone, address etc) and sign! I'll have the form when you come to class.
